Alexandra Kontos is a highly accomplished legal practitioner who co-founded the law firm Walker Kontos with Peter Walker in 1988. She began her legal career in Kenya in 1979, at a time when female lawyers were few in number and even fewer had attained the status of partner. Currently, she holds the position of senior partner at Walker Kontos.

Alexandra's academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws degree from Addis Ababa University and a Master of Laws degree from University College London. She is a Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Fellow and an experienced company secretary. Throughout her extensive career, Alexandra has served in various capacities in legal drafting and law reform. She greatly enjoys mentoring young lawyers and imparting her knowledge to them.

Her specialty is corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, including transnational acquisitions, banking, and corporate finance. As a leader of legal teams involved in establishing joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, disposals, corporate restructuring, and management buy-outs, Alexandra has provided invaluable guidance. She has advised on various banking and financial transactions, such as project finance, loan syndication and securitization, and structured and trade finance. She has represented most Kenyan banks, their overseas branches, and many international finance organizations, including IFC, FMO, Proparco, EIB, and various other international lenders, in loan transactions, some amounting to millions of dollars or euros. In the legal profession, Alexandra is highly respected, and her name evokes admiration and recognition.

Besides her corporate and commercial law expertise, Alexandra is also an accomplished property lawyer. Her forte is due diligence on titles, an area of law that requires a high level of understanding, especially due to recent changes in land registration in Kenya. Consequently, she has played a significant role in various high-end property deals involving hundreds of units in several areas of Nairobi and its environs.

In addition to the above, Alexandra is a polyglot fluent in six languages. She is also the Senior Judge of the Kenya Orchid Society, which she has enthusiastically led for the past thirty years.
